WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Across the country on Friday, protestors came out for ‘Stand Up for Science” rallies to speak out against some of the Trump administration’s actions that they say are a threat to science.
Scientists, researchers, doctors and others came together for the main rally in Washington after recent firings at science, health and climate agencies and cuts to scientific research funding.
“I’m here because I’m really concerned about the future of American scientists. Basically, he has stopped everything in its tracks,” said Iris Lindberg, a scientist who said she studies Parkinson’s disease.
Some attendees said the Trump administration’s actions are endangering scientific progress and worry about the impact those actions may have on the country.
“What I’m seeing coming from this administration is stuff that’s threatening America, and I care about my future and my friend’s future. And I’m worried about that with all the actions being taken,” said Veronica Noel, a college student at the rally.
Attendees heard from several speakers including scientists, doctors, politicians and Bill Nye “the Science Guy” who was critical of the administration’s moves to remove certain words and information from government websites.
“What is it about the process of science, modern medicine, caring for our neighbors, or Women’s History Month, that you all find so scary?” he said.
