BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — Evacuations have been ordered as a fire burns in Bastrop County on Saturday afternoon.
Local fire crews on the scene of the fire in the Camp Swift area, just east of State Highway 95.
Just before 4 p.m., the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said temporary evacuations were underway for residents in the 200 block of LBA Drive south to Moon Mist Drive. That includes less than a dozen homes.
As of 4:30, the county said the fire was not growing, but burning material was producing embers, which are blowing with the winds and starting smaller fires outside of the perimeter. Firefighters are working to extinguish those fires as they pop up.
Fire officials with Texas A&M Fire Service estimate the size of the fire at 1 acre. As of 5:45 p.m., it was 0% contained.
In an update at 5:15 p.m., Bastrop County said the fire had destroyed two structures on a single property. Embers from the flames were still spotting over the road into neighboring properties.
Three single-engine air tankers were on the way to put retardant around the perimeter of the fire.
The Bastrop Fire Department is assisting in the response. Officials said the fire is not threatening the city limits of the city of Bastrop.
The public has been asked to avoid the surrounding area to provide space for responders to safely operate.
