CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors voted to dissolve the school’s office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on Friday, March 7.
Governor Glenn Youngkin praised the move calling it “common sense” in a statement sent out Friday evening.
“DEI is done at the University of Virginia,” Governor Youngkin said in the statement. “We stand for universal truth that everyone is created equal.”
According to Governor Youngkin, the resolution to dissolve the office of DEI passed without objection.
This comes less than a month after the Department of Education sent a Dear Colleague letter to all public and private schools urging, among other things, recipients to eliminate DEI programs.
The letter, and Youngkin, claim DEI programs violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
At time of publication, UVA’s DEI website is still up and running.
