PRINCETON, W.Va. – A Princeton woman is behind bars after being arrested on animal cruelty charges.

Jennifer Shorter, 36, is charged with three counts of animal cruelty based on the abandonment of three dogs that led to the death of one of those dogs from starvation.

The charges are related to a January incident after officers with the Princeton Police Department answered a complaint on Thorton Avenue related to the abandonment of three puppies.

Two of the puppies appeared malnourished and on the verge of death and the other puppy was deceased, according to the criminal complaint.

The officers could not determine how long the puppies had been abandoned but no food or water was found near them.

Warrants for Shorter were issued at the time and she was arrested last week.

Shorter remains incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail on a $6,000 cash only bond.
