Scotland’s top city for a Mother’s Day spa getaway has been named. Mother’s Day will take place this year on March 30.

The annual holiday is all about celebrating mums, with many choosing to treat theirs to afternoon tea or a day out at a spa. Ahead of Mother’s Day, experts at Wowcher have shared a list of the cities across the UK that have the most spas and best spa deals.

Coming in at number one for Scotland, and placing fourth nationwide, is Aberdeen. According to Wowcher, there are five spas in Aberdeen that offer a range of relaxing treatments and packages.

The experts also revealed that there are currently 13 spa deals in the city available to book. Some of the most popular spas in Aberdeen include The Granite Spa and PURE Spa & Beauty.

The Granite Spa is an award-winning day spa that offers treatments such as facials and massages, while PURE Spa & Beauty features a spa and brunch package that includes a 40-minute treatment followed by a meal at Suma Cafe.

Following behind in second place for Scotland, and placing ninth overall, is Edinburgh. The Scottish capital was found to be home to five spas, while there are currently nine deals on offer.

Out of the many spas found in Edinburgh, One Spa and the AWAY Spa are two of the best-reviewed. One Spa offers full body massages and scrubs, and even features a state-of-the-art thermal suite, while the AWAY Spa is a hidden gem tucked away on the fifth floor of the award-winning W Hotel.

Birmingham topped the overall list, with eight spas dotted around the city and 30 deals available. Coventry placed second, with the same number of spas and 27 deals.

Speaking to Wowcher, psychologist and parenting expert Clare Ford commented: “Spending focused, distraction-free time together strengthens emotional bonds, boosts children’s self-esteem, and improves their resilience and social skills.

“Research has even demonstrated that kids who have strong, positive interactions with their parents are more emotionally balanced and less likely to develop behavioural issues.

“Experiences like spa days offer quality, undistracted time together, away from screens and daily stress. Activities that encourage relaxation and conversation help deepen trust and communication, making them far more meaningful than passive time spent in front of a TV.

“Shared experiences strengthen family bonds and create lasting memories. Spas aren’t just a luxury either. They provide a mental reset. They can lower stress and provide mental well-being, which is crucial for mothers.”

She added: “Children learn by example, and when a mother prioritises her own well-being, she teaches her children that self-care is not selfish – it’s essential. By setting boundaries, taking time to relax, and looking after her mental and physical health, she helps her children develop a healthy relationship with rest and self-worth.

“This is especially important for daughters, who often mirror their mother’s approach to stress and self-care in adulthood. Children learn not from what we say, but from what we do.”
