PEMBROKE, Va. (WDBJ) – The Giles County Sheriff’s Office and Pembroke Police Department are working together to help combat car break-ins and trespassers on people’s property.
This is similar to the series of break-ins last fall where residents caught people lurking on their property and attempting to get into cars overnight.
People living in the area say the same streets and homes are being targeted again.
The break-ins typically happen within a two-mile radius near streets like Castle Rock Drive, Hilton Street, Cascade Drive, Smith Street, and other nearby streets in the town of Pembroke.
Chief Deputy Scott Moye with the Sheriff’s Office says there have only been around seven reports of car-break ins in the past few months, but he encourages anyone who catches these people on video or sees any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods to come forward.
“The community can be so helpful in these investigations, and sometimes even though you’re not a victim, you can give us useful information that may help others,” said Moye.
Pembroke Police Chief Nathaniel Spicer says they’ve increased patrol in those neighborhoods with officers working longer hours to keep watch. He says the trespassers are looking for easy access and there are things you can do to help protect your property.
“Lock your doors. Don’t leave cash or things of value in plain sight in your vehicles; even if it’s something you think is small, report it,” said Spicer.
Chief Spicer says he’s working on a date for a community meeting so residents can express their concerns or comments with the police department and the Mayor of Pembroke.
