A woman who accused Mike Tyson of violently raping and sexually assaulting her in the early 1990s has dropped her lawsuit against the former heavyweight champ.

In a letter filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, Tyson’s lawyer, Daniel Rubin, revealed the opposing counsel had informed him “that Plaintiff is withdrawing her complaint.” He noted the victim was “voluntarily discontinuing this Action with prejudice,” and that both “parties are in the process of drafting a stipulation of discontinuance,” USA Today reported.

“While not surprising, given the baseless allegations, we are pleased with the result — a complete withdrawal of all claims without any compensation, concession or settlement of any kind from Mr. Tyson,” Rubin told the outlet.  “This suit never should have been filed and this is the correct outcome.”

The accuser filed her lawsuit against Tyson in January 2023 under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which provided sexual assault victims a one-year window to take legal action, despite the statute of limitations. In the suit, she claimed Tyson touched her and repeatedly attempted to kiss her in his limousine.

“I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me,” she said. “He then pulled my pants off and violently raped me.”

She did not provide a specific date for the encounter, only that it occurred in the early ’90s. She’d been seeking $5 million in damages.

Tyson denied any wrongdoing.
