Convicted murderer Scott Peterson was injured this week after being attacked by another inmate at the California prison where he’s serving a life sentence for the murder of his wife and unborn child.

The altercation happened Sunday at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, about 40 miles southeast of Sacramento, according to officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Authorities said his injuries were minor but did not provide further details.

According to TMZ, Peterson was playing pickleball in the yard when he hit another inmate with the ball, triggering the assault. While his injuries weren’t enough to land him in the hospital, sources told the outlet Peterson got “beat up.”

Peterson, now 52, was convicted in 2004 on two counts of murder for the deaths of his wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Connor, on Christmas Eve 2002. Their bodies were later found in the San Francisco Bay.

Peterson was originally sentenced to receive the death penalty. He was later resentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after the California Supreme Court ruled that potential jurors who disagreed with capital punishment had been dismissed.

The Los Angeles Innocence Project, however, claims it has evidence that proves Peterson was wrongfully convicted and has taken up his case. Peterson has maintained that Laci was abducted by burglars.
