EAST DONEGAL, Pa. (WGAL) – Police in Pennsylvania discovered a fetus buried in a backyard last week.
Susquehanna Regional Police say they responded to a home with a search warrant and found the buried baby about five hours after talking with a witness.
According to an affidavit, the witness told police the situation began in April 2024 when the suspect found out she was pregnant.
The suspect was told she was too far along in the pregnancy for a clinical abortion. So, the witness said, the suspect and her mother got medicine off the internet for an at-home abortion.
The witness was able to provide multiple texts from the suspect about the “birth,” including pictures.
The affidavit said the texts sent by the suspect said things like, “We kept the baby in a little box so we can bury it.”
The mother also noted the baby had “fingernails and lips and a nose.”
She also said in a text that she kept the baby in a container under her bed for weeks before burying it in the backyard.
The coroner’s office said the cause of death was extreme prematurity prior to viability.
No one has been arrested. Police say they are actively investigating.
