BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -As the temperature continues to warm up those involved with the city of Bluefield’s Park and Recreation are trying to recruit older folks to get outdoors more.
Starting this month seniors aged 50 plus are able to take hiking trips to scenic areas in the region. The new group is being called the Timeless Trekkers and will take older people to areas such as Burke’s Garden in Tazewell County, The Cascades Trail in Pembroke, Virginia and the Devil’s Bathtub in Scott County, Virginia. 10 Spots are available for each trip and the cost is five dollars for Rec. Center members and ten dollars for non-members.
“Some of them are a little bit harder. We’ve got on the flier listed difficulties and mileage. The longest one is McAfee’s Knob, it’s about 7.8 Miles round trip. Some of them are a little easier and some are a little harder. For the most part they’re all pretty easy to hike.”
The trips will take place every third Tuesday of the month now through October.
