‘Green Day Hike’ brings St. Patrick’s Day tradition back to Pipestem Resort State Park

PIPESTEM, W. Va. -With St. Patrick’s Day coming up on Monday, people came out to the Pipestem Resort State Park to experience the green to be found in nature for themselves. Many of the West Virginia State Parks hold an annual “Green Day Hike,” encouraging people to come dressed in green and take a walk through the park.

The Pipestem Resort State Park joined in as well, with this being the first time the Green Day Hike has taken guests on a route around the lake. This hike brought around a dozen people out to see the park and pick up a commemorative patch as well.

“It’s a really pretty environment you get to see, there’s all kinds of different styles of nature, and a lot of people, when they’re at home or wherever they’re from, they don’t get a chance to see nature, so you can come out to a park, and it lets you see everything that’s available,” says Jason Hajenga, assistant naturalist at Pipestem Resort State Park.

If you missed Green Day Hike, Pipestem will be holding more guided hikes, with one planned for about every month. You can find out when the next one will be, along with other things the park has planned on their website.
