Officials with the Austin Fire Department determined that the fire was accidental.

AUSTIN, Texas — Thirty-two people are without a home following a structure fire that spread to three separate buildings in far east Austin.

The fire occurred in the 6800 block of Wentworth Drive, near Decker Lake. The fire originated at a two-story duplex and spread to another duplex next door and a house behind it. Austin Fire officials believe Saturday’s high winds played a factor in the fire spreading.

A third-alarm was eventually called, and the fire was eventually extinguished just before 5 p.m. One firefighter with AFD suffered injuries, while the bodies of three dogs and one cat were recovered from the scene.

Officials ruled that the cause was accidental, with the fire originating from a barbecue pit.
