(CNN) – Mexican authorities have arrested an alleged leader of the Los Angeles-based MS-13 gang.
Francisco Javier Román-Bardales is on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list.
Mexican authorities say he was arrested on a highway in Veracruz.
They say Román-Bardales will be transferred to Mexico City and then to the United States.
He is accused of drug distribution, extortion and ordering acts of violence in the U.S., Mexico and El Salvador, which is where he is originally from.
In the U.S., Román-Bardales faces several charges including conspiracy to provide and conceal material support and resources to terrorists, narco-terrorist conspiracy and racketeering conspiracy.
The Trump administration has designated the MS-13 gang as a terrorist organization.
