BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A Bluefield church has begun preparing thousands off eggs with profits from sales being given to local non-profits.

It’s believed that Trinity United Methodist Church has been preparing peanut butter eggs every year since 1990. The eggs are sold annually with proceeds given to non-profits in the area.

This year the church is expecting to make around 2,000 of the sweet treats.

“Some of the things we do are Mary’s cradle. We have done the Union Mission. We use some of the money to do dinners for the recovery group. The gentlemen over at the old Salvation Army,” said church member, Melissa Haye.

Haye says she’s been helping to prepare the eggs for the last 20 years. She says the methods they use to make the eggs changes every year. However, they don’t let that slow them down.

“We mixed yesterday on Monday and we made 310 eggs. We’re going to mix for five times. Some mixes will be more eggs, tomorrow will probably be four of five hundred,” said Haye.

Haye says the eggs are priced at five dollars each, meaning they’re hoping to raise $10,000 to help the community.

“It’s a fulfilling thing to know that we’re doing something that people enjoy to have and we help people in our community. Our community is the most important thing,” said Haye.

The peanut butter eggs are expected to be ready for purchase by next Monday. If you’re interested in purchasing one of the eggs you can stop by or call the church Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm.

The church can be reached at 304-327-7448.
