AUSTIN, Texas — Facebook’s parent company, Meta, appears to be renovating part of its Downtown Austin office space.
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation(TDLR) records show the company filed paperwork for a $2.9 million renovation at its location on West Sixth Street. This comes despite previous plans to sublease the building.
Construction is expected to run from May through mid-July, but it’s unclear if this renovation is for Meta’s own use or to attract potential subtenants.
Meta has an additional 600,000 square feet available in the nearby 6th and Guadalupe, which remains the city’s largest available sublease.
Meanwhile, Meta also has plans to purchase all the power produced from the Waterloo Solar Project, a solar farm planned for Bastrop County.
The project will be owned by German energy company RWE, and construction will start later this year.
Meta employees say the deal will support the company’s crowing operations in Texas, which include a data center currently under construction in Temple.
