AUSTIN, Texas — Rodeo Austin is in full swing. The 15-day event runs from March 14 to March 29 and brings in up to 500,000 people.

Jeff Thane is the chief operating officer. He said the event brings around $80 million to the local economy. Rodeo Austin also raises money for scholarships.

“We will have international guests that are coming specifically to watch the rodeo,” said Thane. “Most of livestock exhibitors come from across the state, so a lot of hotel nights, a lot time in restaurants.”

It’s an annual event volunteer Shirley Windsor doesn’t miss.

“It’s the best. I have been doing it approximately 30 years and I keep coming back,” said Windsor.

On Wednesday, the young ones participated in several events, including the Junior Wether Dams & Wether Does.

Haileigh Tribble came from Fort Worth to participate.

“I really like the rodeo because it’s really calm, really easy going and just a calm environment,” said Tribble. “I really love it.”

Tribble is one of hundreds participating in the rodeo events. The event also has fairgrounds with carnival rides and concerts.
