BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Senate Bill 460 was narrowly rejected in the House of Representatives in a vote of 56 to 42 with two abstaining.
The bill will now return to the senate to see if the legislative body can make enough changes to appease the house.
The bill, which would introduce broad vaccine exemptions, passed the senate last month with the support of 20 senators, 12 in opposition and 2 abstaining.
“For the people that it effects, it’s greatly desirous that the bill pass. Because we have a group of people that have been locked out of public education and even private education, they can’t go to private schools,” said Sen. Rollan Roberts (R-Raleigh) before the passage of the bill. “I think it’s practical and I don’t think we’ll have all these massive outbreaks.”
