CHICAGO (WLS) – A teenage boy is facing murder charges in Chicago.

Police say he stabbed and beat his 16-year-old girlfriend to death in a park last week.

The 15-year-old boy was ordered by a Cook County Juvenile Court judge on Monday to remain in custody.

In court, a Cook County prosecutor said the boy was holding hands with Kaylah Love as they left the McDonald’s at Roosevelt Road and Kedzie Avenue on March 16.

Minutes later, he allegedly attacked Kaylah at Horan Park a few blocks away.

Kaylah’s family held a vigil for her at that park. The family declined any comment, but thanked those who helped lead police to the arrest.

Prosecutors charged a 15-year-old with murder for allegedly stabbing and beating his 16-year-old girlfriend to death in a park.

The 15-year-old boy, who is not being identified at this time because of his age, was arrested Sunday.

Prosecutors say a witness to the attack identified the boy and surveillance video tracked the him from the park to his home.

After executing a search warrant, police recovered clothing that he was seen wearing on March 16.

Also, prosecutors say the boy’s encrypted social media handle was listed in Kaylah’s phone as “boyfriend.”

Prosecutors told the judge that the 16-year-old girl died from multiple traumatic injuries.

It’s alleged the boy hit Kaylah in the face, then continued to attack her on the ground with his feet and a glass bottle.

Kaylah was a beloved Manley Career Academy High School student who planned to pursue a career in culinary arts.

Kaylah’s family said after her death that police were called to Horan Park on March 16 after a report for a fight in the park. They claim police drove by the area, but did not get out of the vehicle.

The teen’s badly beaten body was not found in the park until the following day on March 17.

Chicago police said there is an internal investigation into the matter.

The suspect is due back in court on April 16.
