The incident prompted an AMBER Alert for two children who were later found unharmed.

ROCKDALE, Texas — A deadly shooting Monday night prompted an AMBER Alert in Rockdale.

The Rockdale Police Department said it received a call Monday just after 5 p.m. from someone reporting a woman’s body found inside of a home on Rice Street.

Officers arrived and found the woman, later identified as 58-year-old Stephanie McBride, dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

During their investigation, police said evidence led to an arrest warrant for McBride’s daughter, 39-year-old Brittney Deshay Shields of Austin. Police said it appears that Shields acted alone during the incident.

Police said following the shooting, Shields took her two children and drove to Austin, which led to the AMBER Alert. The alert was eventually canceled after the children were found unharmed inside Shields’ Austin home.

Multiple agencies helped locate Shields before she was booked into Travis County Jail. She now faces a capital murder charge in Milam County.
