DALLAS — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action after an investigation into Dallas ISD’s transgender athlete policies.
Paxton launched the investigation in February “to ensure that the districts are not allowing boys to compete in girls’ sports.” His legal crusade has since extended to other North Texas districts. So far, he has launched probes into Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, Richardson ISD and Hutto ISD.
Paxton announced Monday that he will depose several employees of Dallas ISD, including Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde and members of the Board of Trustees.
The depositions come after a conservative activist group, Accuracy in Media, filmed and published videos of Dallas and Irving ISD administrators without their knowledge.
According to Paxton’s press release, a Dallas ISD administrator was filmed saying a male student would be allowed to participate in girls’ sports if the parent changed the birth certificate of their son to “female.” The release also claimed she said that the district “find[s] the loopholes in everything” and that she is willing to go to jail for defying Texas law.
DISD released the following statement after Paxton’s depositions:
“The district is aware that the Attorney General has filed a pre-suit request for depositions of certain district officials. We are cooperating with the Attorney General’s office to provide information that confirms Dallas ISD’s ongoing compliance with federal and state laws. The district is committed to continue following both the spirit and intent of the law.”
