Barcelona have been rocked by another salary cap enforced by La Liga after allegedly flouting financial restrictions once again.

In a statement, league officials have decided to take action over the club’s €100million sale of VIP seats in the new Camp Nou were not conducted within the set deadline.

Barca may now once again be scrambling to extend Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s registrations. If they can’t, the players may be forced to leave the club for free.

Barcelona’s salary cap was raised in January after the club produced evidence stating their €100m sale of VIP seats had been finalised on January 3, 2025.

They were then granted a temporary right to register both Olmo and Victor for the second half of the season.

The players were initially registered on a short-term basis, as Barcelona took advantage of a financial loophole following an injury to defender Andreas Christensen.

However, Barcelona published their financial accounts for the year and made no mention of the seat sales as part of the tally.

As a result La Liga is now alleging the deal was not actually completed on time.

In a statement, La Liga confirmed the receipt of official documentation from an auditor which confirmed the sale was legitimate on January 3.

“No amount from the (VIP box deal) is ultimately recorded in the profit and loss accounts, contrary to what had been certified by the club and the auditor at the time of said transaction.”

La Liga said they were reporting the auditor Barcelona used between December 31 and January 3 to the Accounting and Auditing Institute.

“According to the referenced Interim Financial Statements, and in compliance with the NEP, FC Barcelona did not, as of December 31, 2024, or January 3, 2025, nor does it currently, have any positive balance or registration capacity, publicly known as ‘Fair Play’, to register the players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.”

Barcelona are yet to provide a statement in response to the La Liga announcement.
