The Masked Singer’s latest reveal has left both fans and judges in a state of shock after a double elimination. Only five stars are left in their costumes after Kingfisher and Snail were unmasked on Saturday night, February 1.
Host Joel Dommett and panellists Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Maya Jama were taken aback by the unexpected revelation of Sir Grayson Perry being revealed as Kingfisher.
The astonished artist said to the panel: “I can’t hear, I can’t see, the shock for me taking the hat off was seeing you.”
Mo Gilligan praised the shock singer, commenting on how he perfectly captured the essence of the show, reports the Mirror
Viewers at home were also stunned by the reveal. One fan tweeted: “Grayson Perry letting everyone believe he was Harry Hill performing as Kingfisher! Well played there!” Another said: “So Kingfisher was Grayson Perry. I never would have thought him at all.”
Many viewers were convinced that Harry Hill was behind the Kingfisher mask, exactly what Grayson intended. He divulged: “I was playing that up massively because I know Harry Hill. I was playing, it’s fun, it’s a game! I thought I’d play the role of being a TV comedian!”
When asked about his experience, Grayson said: “I was gutted when I got knocked out. I had two really lovely songs lined up for next week. I was going to sing, Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the place! I’d already been practising. I could hardly get through without blubbing.
“And then I was going to do Stick Season by Noah Kahan. That’s a great song. Lots of words though. Very hard to learn but I had it nailed and I was really looking forward to it.”.
Later, Andrea Corr was revealed as the person behind the Snail mask. The panellists were gobsmacked to discover it was the famous vocalist. Speaking about her experience, Andrea told The After Mask: “It was brilliant. It was amazing. I was looking forward to singing the other songs but listen, I’ve had such a good time. It’s been such a joy to do.”
Mel Giedroyc, unmasked as Teeth last week, also shared her thoughts on the show. She said: “I just feel it’s a win-win. I didn’t think I’d get this far, I think I’ve got over half way which is great! It’s been so fun.
“I feel really elated actually. I blooming loved it. I’m sad because my next song was Pointer Sisters, ‘Automatic’ done as Marlene Dietrich. That would have been fun.
“Listen, if you told me you’re going to have a chance to sing the Neighbours theme tune dressed as an enormous pair of wind up teeth with pink tights and big pink flapping feet, I would say I could stop my career now. For me that is the pinnacle!”
The performer also shared the secrecy surrounding her decision to go on the show, indicating how even her close mate Sue Perkins was kept in the dark. Asked if she told Sue, Mel said: “No, because she didn’t tell me. She was a Dragon and she never told me. So right back at ya girlfriend.”
However, Mel did confide in one person – her husband. She shared details of his supportive response in The After Mask: “He took it really seriously. The level of training he took me through at home!”
